Yesterday, Julie Turkewitz, Tibisay Romero, Sheyla Urdaneta and Isayen Herrera published‘You Are All Terrorists’: Four Months in a Salvadoran Prison in the NYTimes (link). It is very important and excellent reporting.
What has happened is absolutely revolting, not only with the people who were deported and imprisoned unjustly in El Salvador, but also what is happening with others targeted by ICE. ICE needs to be labeled the terrorist organization that it has become and regarded as such.
I read a comment that I thought hit things spot on:
Saying whatever message makes sense to you, to your reps, I think would be a good move. For me, it’s asking for the abolishment of ICE and an end to deportation efforts.
I did a quick search for which organizations/groups who are helping immigrants, and I found a really great article with a list, by L.A.Taco. Here’s the link.
I recommend looking through them all, though I know it can be overwhelming, so I wanted to highlight a few:
-The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) (link)
-National Immigration Law Center (link)
-The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) (link)
There are also several groups mentioned in the list, such as the Community Self Defense Coalition L.A. (it links to their Instagram, which did not have a website, but this is a GoFundMe link) and Jail Support LA that appear to be doing very direct and local advocacy in Los Angeles, CA, which has been heavily targeted lately by ICE.
